Sammy Sosa Hits Number 600 [David Stefanini]

Sammy Sosa hit his 600th career home run tonight.

Most people are going to say it is no big deal because he is a cheater who used steroids. I think that is a stupid thing to say. He reached a milestone only achieved by 4 other human beings. Sosa has never been found guilty of using steroids. So before you run out and crucify him for reaching this milestone take a step back and think about it.

Later this year, probably sooner rather than later, A-Rod is going to hit his 500th career home run. Should we celebrate that more because he clearly doesn't take steroids? No, Sosa hit 600 home runs. When he retires there will not be an asterisk, or any other kind of marking. One hundred years from now people will look at his career totals and say it is amazing what he accomplished. Why should wee be any different?
